The story behind the image
If you are traveling along the Scottish west coast between Dumfries and Ayr we strongly recommend to leave the A77 at Turnberry for the Culzean Castle. It is like the storybook castle of your dreams, situated on top of dramatic cliffs with superb views across the sea.
The castle had been built from 1777 to 1792 based on an old fortified towercastle. This makes Culzean Castle probably the finest Georgian castle in Scotland. Be prepared to see a lot of tourists during the high season – or come late in the afternoon as we did. There were just very few families there, and we did not even had to pay any fees!
This is the splendid view from the castle across the “Firth of Clyde” with its deep blue and clear water. This was even more highlighted by the fact that the sea was extremely calm. In the back you can see the mountains of Arran.
