The story behind the image
Let’s start the new year with a true gem from my archive that sat unused in the folder for a long time. It shows a panoramic view (composed from four images) of the development area in Unterhaching, Germany, called Stumpfwiese. In the front you see a field that was still actively maintained by the farmer while in the back new buildings arise: On the left, the school is being constructed , the cranes in the center belong to a site where a retirement home is built. At the edge of the field (center-right) is the sales booth for the area.
This image is such a gem because – it is impossible to shoot this image today! Not only has the school been inaugurated long ago, and the retirement home has been completed, no, the entire field has been occupied by new buldings as well. There is no free view from that location towards the school or towards the buildings in the back and on the right. That view is gone forever, which makes my image pretty unique.
Sad and nice at the same time.
