The story behind the image

We approached the Canadian Rocky Mountains from the west, coming from Clearwater which was our last stopover prior to Jasper. Clearwater is a busy community just south of the Wells Gray Provincial Park with several stunning hikes and viewpoints. It is less busy compared to the Jasper National Park, though, which makes it very attractive for those looking for a peaceful time out in the woods.

We stayed for two nights in Clearwater, which gave us the opportunity to visit Wells Gray Provincial Park for a full day.

One morning we went to the The Covered Wagon Restaurant (and Mad Trppers Pub) to enjoy breakfast as advertised on the display in front of the building. We were mostly attracted by the funny name which suggested good, solid home cooking. And we were not disappointed!

The restaurant burned down in March 2004. Tragically, the raging fire turned into a catastrophe for Chad Schapansky, a young and brave volunteer firefighter who lost his life when he stepped on the floor, fell into the basement and got trapped. R.I.P.

Where would the world be without the brave men and women of the fire department?
