The story behind the image
From the Grand Canyon National Park we droved to Page, Arizona, using Highway 89. For miles and miles and miles we drove through a mostly untouched landscape with very little signs of human life (except the highway and road signs, of course.) I found it interesting that now and then there were gas stations, isolated houses, and even small communities.
Antelope Pass is on Highway 89 about one hour north of Cameron. There is a convenient parking lot that enables you to stop safely on the otherwise rather narrow highway.
The stunning panorama covers Marble Canyon with its large crack where the Colorado River flows. In the back, the high plateau of the the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument can be seen.
Standing up there created feelings of freedom to me. And appreciation for the ultimate power of nature. Awesome.
Oh, and looking at streetview images from October 2024 reveals that the rocks in the front have not changed at all in more than 20 years! This shows that Mother Nature has a different timescale compared to us mere humans.
