The story behind the image

Siena is a busy town in Tuscany in Italy. It’s best known for the horse race called Palio di Siena but has a beautiful historic city center, too. One of its key attractions is the Cattedrale Metropolitana di Santa Maria Assunta (Duomo di Siena) with its unique tower which is covered with black and white marble stripes all over. (As always, Wikipedia has all the details.)

We just spent a few hours in Siena and were lucky enough to catch the Dome in beautiful sunlight. Then we continued our journey towards Pienza, and soon the few dark clouds would were getting more intense, take over the sky, and open their gates, pouring heavy rain over the city and the Tuscan landscape.
