Walk of Fame, Hollywood

When you are visiting Los Angeles in California, you will have a hard time resisting the urge to (at least shortly) visit Hollywood, or rather: the area along the Hollywood Boulevard. The name alone – Hollywood – sounds magical.

And we were not different. We simply had to visit the area. But when we arrived at the “heart” of Hollywood, the Hollywood Strip we were not too impressed. We found mirrored windows on faceless concrete buildings, countless souvenir shops offering all kinds of kitsch, and some wannabe actors dressed as Elvis, Darth Vader, Spiderman and what not.

Mann’s Chinese Theater was interesting as it offers several restaurants and stores. From the upper floors you have a fantastic view across the city.

We were most impressed by the Walk of Fame with its 2,700+ plates carrying the names of famous actos and musicians. (Here’s the full list.)

You may wonder why I picked the plates of Don Johnson and Syd Cassyd for my photo? Well, I was looking for a decent, unusual photo of the plates on the boardwalk. The sunset was approaching and I realized that the light was beautiful at the western section of the boardwalk, around 7080 Hollywood Boulevard. I was really happy with the composition of the photo. However, there were no names of real stars. Don Johnson – just known for Miami Vice, Syd Cassyd – never heard before. At least the third plate contained the name of Rod Steiger, a real movie celebrity. But I did not mind, I wanted to capture my composition, regardless of the names.

I really like this shot, because it is quite different to the images you typically see.
