The story behind the image
Earlier today I shared a photo from 1910 from our family archive. In the same folder I found this photo, showing a young man of maybe 18 years as he reads a book at a table. This image has been taken in the same location as the other one, however the photographer has rearranged the furniture. (He kept the big painting, though, which is a giveaway on the location.)
This image also challenged my editing skills as the original print is in a terrible condition. It has faded a lot. There are many color stains and countless little specks all over the print. The exposure was much better than in the other photo, though. I’ve restored the image to come as closely as possible to the (perceived) intent of the photographer. Today, it’s a pretty cool 42 Megapixel image that can hopefully survive the next centuries, somewhere.
