The story behind the image
This is my grandmother, photographed by my grandfather, Otto Schweim. Obviously, this image is from the family archive. I adore this shot because it shows that she was doing well. The war had ended four years ago and – most importantly – the family had survived. The kids were developing nicely, the bungalow in Malente-Gremsmühlen had been sold, and their business in Kiel had survived as well and was striving. Yes, she had a good time, and her warm, relaxed smile makes me melt away. Sadly, I never met her as she passed away shortly after my birth.
