The story behind the image
Flora MacDonald is one of the heroes of Scotland. Born on the island of South Uist, she earned her fame when she helped Charles Edward Stuart (aka as „Bonnie Prince Charlie“), after his defeat in the battle of Culloden, to escape into freedom.
Close to Kilmuir is the spot where Bonnie Prince Charlie came over the sea to Skye, disguised as Flora MacDonald’s maidservant. Thus, a number of places are connected to these two in this part of the island. And just a few steps away from the Skye Museum of Island Life of Kilmuir you will find Flora MacDonald’s grave and monument.
