The story behind the image
I shot this photo of my trusted, worn out car, a Mercedes Benz 200D (W123) with super high milage, for a feature story in a magazine. I had offered three or four images, and the editorial team preferred another one as it had much more power and was illustrating the story much better (and I agree).
As I stumbled upon this image in the archive recently, I have to say that I like this image as well and can see how this might decorate the wall of an enthusiast or collector today.
Shot on Ilford FP4, a black and white negative film and the defacto standard for high-end b&w shots. Re-scanning it from the original negative, I’m amazed at the quality as it did not require much editing.
