The story behind the image
The Scottish west coast seems to be the home of dramatic clouds. Here’s another picture in our mini series covering the drive from Ullapool to the Skye Bridge. I captured this photo from the A832 slightly south of Aultbea where we stayed for a night. The sun was about to set, but dark clouds had begun to show up.
The sun was creating long shadows already, but the correct exposure on the sea and the sky turned the village of Aultbea into one surreal dark mass of land near the ocean. The dark clouds over the Atlantic added to the dramatic, artificial look. Revisiting the image now, I have to admit that I really like it.
