The story behind the image
One of my first images from our 2003 trip to the United States. We had arrived in San Francisco the night before and had checked-in to our hotel which was not far from Union Square. When we went out to explore the city after a fitful sleep, one of the first places we stumbled upon was Union Square. Here, at the corner of Powell Street and Post Street, I saw two yellow cabs – the iconic American taxis – waiting for customers. The perfect image to start a roll of film covering our trip.
I just love the saturated yellow and orange colors of the cabs that contrast well with the matte gray of the walls in the back. The absence of green and blue colors is interesting, too. Bouns: The angle of the street indicates that San Francisco is far from ‘flat’, quite the contrary (as we soon should find out.)
