The story behind the image
Florence for sure is on of the most photographed cities in the world. Its heritage and outright beauty makes it a wonderful destination for countless tourists from around the world. Including us.
So, how could anyone capture an (almost) unique image of such a place? Well, by getting up early on a quiet Sunday morning, going to the river Arno, and shooting what others apparently did not consider a beautiful or attractive image – because the Ponte Vecchio, the world famous iconic bridge of Florence, is not part of the frame, just Ponte Santa Trinitata which does not look as impressive.
I saw the rower gliding gently on the very calm river, and liked the way he was totally centered in the frame, surrounded by all the old (and not so old) houses and culture and beauty. In this image I see just him, the river, the sky, and the history.
I think it’s an awesome image.
