JULY 2005 – On a hot day, two men take a swim at the harbour of Portpatrick in Scotland. Photo © by Mark Zanzig/zanzig.com
The story behind the image
Portpatrick is a beautiful small village at the western-most point of Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. Several colourful houses face the working harbour, including a number of hotels and B&Bs. When the weather plays along, this is certainly a good place to stay overnight (for example, at the Waterfront Hotel).
That day in July 2005 had been very hot, and we had been walking along the harbour. Then I noticed the two guys taking in the harbour basin, an unusual place for a swim – but I guess they were desperately looking for a refreshment! The tiny beach of Portpatrick allows you to easily enter the water or simply relax. Here’s another photo of Portpatrick.
