The story behind the image
This photo from a business trip to London in 2000 shows Coventry Street from Piccadily Circus at night. Even back then, there has been a bright display high above the street. It usually showed advertising or news.
However, every now and then the display would show the animated eyes of a person, possibly as part of a digital art installation. I found this scary in a way, because it was really looking like a big brother who is watching the people. At the same time, I thought it was unique and quite funny. A fascinating piece of digital art.
I was able to capture the scene while the eyes were showing. The display seems to be still there – the eyes are probably gone.
