Independence Day

SEPTEMBER 2003 – The national flag of the United States of America, the Stars and Stripes Banner, blows in the wind between trees on a clear sunny summer day. © Mark Zanzig/zanzig.com

The story behind the image

Not much of a story here. We visited Carmel at the West Coast of California and there was this beautiful Stars & Stripes flag waving gently in the wind. Gently? What do you mean? The wind was perfect for photographing a flag: Not too strong (which would make it almost stand away from the pole in a right angle), not too weak (which would make it slop down like a powerless piece of cloth.) No, it was absolutely perfect. And I still love this shot.

And so I think it’s only fair to publish this image on the 4th of July.
