The story behind the image
Today is Palm Sunday, and this photo from the family archive shows the traditional procession on Palm Sunday in Madrid, Spain, in 1957.
The photo was most likely shot in the town center at Gran Via, the High Street of Madrid. The Hotel Bristol, which is prominently visible in the image, used to be located at number 40. It’s unclear whether it’s still in operation.
It’s interesting to see the cobble stone on the street and all the traditional cloaks. As this image was shot exactly 65 years ago, the kids are probably between 75 and 80 years old today.
It’s awesome to see such a decent quality of a consumer black and white print. I only had to reduce the contrast between the harsh shadows (bottom left) and the brightly illuminated center of the street.
