The story behind the image
I am shooting weddings across Bavaria, and I can be booked for short portrait sessions and extensive photo documentaries. I love them all, but I like the documentaries a bit more, because these provide me the opportunity to settle in with the couple and also do fun stuff.
Fun stuff? Yes. This photo is a good example. While the bride was dressing up in another room, the groom played around with some of the flower decorations they had planned for their clothes. He held one of the mini bouquets to his suit. Then he just laughed, adding: “No way. These are too large and too colorful.” (And yes, he could convince his wife that they shouldn’t wear them.)
I like the clear lines and subtle expression on his lips showing that he’s not a big fan of the bouquet. Also, the very reduced color set makes the bouquet really stand out. I think that despite being just a fun shot, it’s a very good shot. This is usually only possible when spending most of the day with the couple.
