The story behind the image
We visited the Mopani Rest Camp during a stopover in the Kruger National Park to get some rest. And there we were greeted by this tiny Gecko that sat calmly on the wooden handrail, enjoying the morning sun.
I love this shot because the 400 mm focal length resulted in an effective focal length of 520 mm (on the EOS 1D mark III) so I could get really close. I deliberately chose to put the horizon into the vertical center and to blur out the background. The nice contrast between the animal and the light green in the back puts the focus on the tiny guy. Lovely.
