The story behind the image

This is my grandmother, photographed by my grandfather, Otto Schweim. Obviously, this image is from the family archive. I adore this shot because it shows that she was doing well. The war had ended four years ago and the family had survived. The kids were developing nicely, the bungalow in Malente-Gremsmühlen had been sold, and their business in Kiel was striving. Yes, she had a good time, and her warm, relaxed smile makes me melt away. Sadly, I never really met her as she passed away shortly after my birth.
