The story behind the image
Old image lots can hold beautiful gems that need to be discovered. All too often such images will be thrown away and thus be gone forever.
Take this image from 1959 from the large lot of slides I purchased a couple of weeks ago. It shows:
- A young man who walks five dogs in the city of Den Haag. he already looks a bit exhausted from keeping the dogs under control.
- A 1951 Kaiser Manhattan sedan car on the left.
- A young man leaning at the green lightpost, apparently looking at down at something in his hands. Today we would assume that he holds a smartphone, but back in 1959?
- The Café-Restaurant de la Paix in the back.
- A man who stares at the group of dogs probably concered about what might happen next.
Is this art? Maybe. But it certainly is a document of life in Den Haag in 1959.
I love it.
