The story behind the image

We’re back from a refreshing summer vacation at the German Baltic Sea. This year we spent two weeks in Grömitz (again) but I took the time to visit some of the places of my ancesters, their preferred churches but also their houses and other locations.

Here’s a nice shot of the Marienkirche in Ahrensbök which dates back to the year 1320. Several of my ancesters used to live in or around the town, including my great grandfather Theodor Schweim who was born in Havekost near Ahrensbök in 1857 and got baptized in this church.

I slightly trembled when I entered the main room of the church and imagined how the community celebrated the arrival of Theodor following the age-old ritual like centuries before. Just wow.

And here I stood and took this image. The light was okay, but I had to push ISO to 1000 and tried to hold the camera steady at 1/15 sec exposure time (and it worked well, fortunately.)
