The story behind the image
Back in 1957 one part of the family traveled from Oldenburg in Germany, to Alicante in Spain – with a small car. Back then, this was a huge road trip. They visited Biarritz in France, and San Sebastian, Madrid, Alicante, and Valencia in Spain. And Barcelona.
This image shows construction works in the Chinese Quarter (Barrio Chino), an area of the El Raval neighborhood near the old port. A construction worker puts garbage on a donkey carriage while a second donkey waits at the end of the street. Three tourists watch the scene, apparently irritated to see the donkeys and watch the hard manual work.
Sadly, I could not find the location on Google Maps, but I like its authentic look. An early piece of street photography.
