The story behind the image

Today is the 4th March 2025 – the absolute peak of the German Mardi Gras season (which is called Fasching over here). Yesterday there were the traditional parades in the large German cities along the river Rhine, Frankfurt, Cologne, Düsseldorf. Today the party continues almost everywhere. For example, in Munich.

Back in 2007 I attended the festivities on the Viktualienmarkt in Munich. Back then, the place was packed with people, the market stands had switched from their usual portfolio of vegetables, meat, and flowers, to – drinks (with and without alcohol.) A local radio station was playing loud and cool dance music, and everyone was having a good time. (Maybe not the next day, but that’s a different story.)

So in the light of these activities taking place all over Germany around this time of the year, I pulled this image from the archive, showing a clown wig in bright colors. I used the 200 mm tele lens for this and opted for a large aperture to achieve the nice blur in the background.

A fun shot that hopefully brightens up your day, too.
