The story behind the image
Siena is a busy town in Tuscany in Italy. It’s best known for the horse race called Palio di Siena but has a beautiful historic city center, too. This panorama shot shows the historic tower of the town hall, the Torre del Mangia, in the center, overlooking a see of appartment buildings.
Back in 2000, we just spent a few hours in Siena and were lucky enough to catch the town in beautiful sunlight. As we continued our journey towards Pienza, the few clouds would get more intense, take over the sky and open their gates, pouring heavy rain over the city and the Tuscan landscape.
This image combines the charming (yet wild) architecture of the historic houses which is further enhanced by the four motor rollers in the front. This image, by the way, would be impossible to shoot today, because the place where the rollers have been parked now is the patio of a restaurant.
