The story behind the image

A couple of days ago, I shared an image of the basilica Sacré-Cœur in Paris, France.

We had made our way from the Metro station Abbesses through the Montmartre quarter and to the magnificent basilica Sacré-Cœur. We had sat down on the wide stairs (along hundreds of other tourists) outside the church and saw dark clouds coming up in the distance.

Two minutes later it started to pour rain, a heavy rain shower, and everyone was heading for the church looking for shelter.

Once we were inside we silently watched the church service which was in progress. Within the church we hardly noticed what was going on outside. It was rather quiet and peaceful despite the masses streaming in.

As in most roman catholic churches, visitors could light a candle, and I took a photo of this moment.
