The story behind the image
The other day I shared a photo by Georg Billström, one of the early photographers in Kiel, Germany.
Here’s another cabinet photo shot by Billström. It shows an unknown couple in his studio in Holstenstraße 22 in Kiel. According to a handwritten comment on the back, the man is “Grandma Berners Brother” (“Oma Berners Bruder”) which does not help at all. The studio location, however, suggests a production date between 1890 and 1897, probably 1895. (Photos shot between 1897 to 1902 show the address Vorstadt 9, and photos after 1902 show Holstenstraße 43.)
Even if I don’t know them, I like their photo.
