The story behind the image
During our trip to Scotland we had opted to head first for the west coast. And when we were in Oban, the weather was bad. Really bad. There was rain. And wind. And it was cold.
In the late afternoon we watched a live transmission from the St. Andrews golf tournament – at the east coast – and there was perfect sunshine! Too bad, we thought, but wanted to wait for the next day before deciding on the next steps. Maybe, just maybe, the weather would calm down?
It didn’t. The next day began as the last ended. Rain. Wind. Cold temperatures.
Without further ado we decided to head for the east coast. In the late afternoon we arrived in the busy town. Here’s a fine view across St. Andrews Bay. Yes, there was rain coming up, but there was also some sun sparkling on the open sea.
St. Andrews is not just known for its golf tournament. Also its college is pretty popular. Many celebrities have studied here (for example Prince William), and this gives the university the same appeal as Oxford or Cambridge.
I took this photo of St. Andrews Pier from the top of the cliffs at E Scores before we continued our walk towards the ruins of St. Andrews Castle.
