The story behind the image
Here is another shot that belongs to a set of historic postcards showing a sailing race on the Baltic Sea, likely shot during Kiel Week in 1905, but this is just a guess.
The picture shows two gaff sloops speeding across the water near the cliffs of Schilksee in Kiel. The decent wind has tilted the ships significantly. Given that the photos were shot in 1905, I am amazed by the quality of the images. How on earth did the photographer manage to capture this dynamic scene on (presumably) glass plates?
I think this is a stunning photo for sailing enthusiasts that illustrates the topic of (speed) sailing perfectly – a beautiful maritime decoration for your home or your office.
