The story behind the image
Lisbon in Portugal is overtowered by the São Jorge fortress, one of the true icons of the city. It sits right above the Alfama, the historic city center with many restaurants and Fado singers. From the castle you have fantastic views across the city.
After an early breakfast we walked to the castle. My photo shows the walls on its western side. The sun was perfectly lurking behind the old building. Back in the times of analog photography, it was impossible (for me) to pull through a number of images and just hope achieving a star shaped look for the sun at f-stop 8 or 10. The lack of direct feedback was challenging. So, I accepted my fate and was really happy with the result. I still think it looks great.
Since 1988, by the way, the castle walls have been freed from ivy, the scrub has been removed, and the trees have been cut back.
