The story behind the image
We had learned our lesson: When you’re driving along the highways of Namibia, just use every petrol station that you will encounter. Otherwise you might encounter problems. What’s more, it’s also nice to have a chat and relax for a moment.
So, when we approached the Solitaire rest area and petrol station, we had planned already for a stop. But who would have thought that it’s also a great place to take photos? These poor remains of a Morris Eight small family car greeted. It was produced from 1935 to 1948, so it was already quite old. But imagination starts right away, throwing up questions like: Who were the folks who left their car here? And why? What’s the experience driving that car in the 1940s in Namibia? How bad were the roads back then? Questions, questions.
