The story behind the image
One of the truly exciting features of the Sossusvlei Lodge in Sesriem, Namibia, is its neighborhood. Surrounded by steppe and gentle hills, you commonly see Oryx and Ostriches peacefully grazing close to the hotel. The main entrance to the Sossusvlei dunes is right around the corner, and the Sesriem Canyon is just a 10 minute drive away (outside of the National Park.)
I shot this image from our tent in the late afternoon. Admittedly, I used the full focal length of 400 mm and also cropped the image slightly, but the Oryx was still pretty close. And beautiful to watch. I also like the way the large aperture blurs the background.
