The story behind the image

Let’s be honest. You will know many animals just from visits to the zoo. That’s because you don’t want to encounter them in the streets of your neighborhood. None of them. A polar bear? Nice to look at in the zoo, not so nice when you meet him in your garage. (Just ask the people of Churchill in Canada.) And it’s even true for Zebra. Imagine the chaos that would break lose if they’d walk across your local highway. Not good.

All the more it is exciting to see them in their natural environment. This is exactly what you get at the Etosha National Park in Nambia. You just enter the park with your own car or truck (which is highly recommended by the way), or as part of a guided tour, and you’ll see wild animals already on the first Mile.

And you’ll be stunned. Photo opportunities galore! Now I was really happy about my 100-400 mm tele lens, so I could capture this Zebra herd in a perfect position. They were relaxed and had not yet noticed us, so they did not just stare at us observing our motion.

True beauties in my view.
