The story behind the image
Nova Scotia is full of history, including historical churches built by the settlers from Europe. This is St. Mary’s in Lismore, which seems to shine in bright white even on a cloudy day (when we were visiting the site.) The curch dates back to 1834 and has been well maintained over this long period.
The history of the church has been perfectly summarized in a booklet that has been published for the 150th anniversary in 1984. It can be read online at the St. Francis Xavier University.
It’s a lovely church in a beautiful location and well worth a visit.
