The story behind the image
Los Gigantes is an awesome location at the western coast of Tenerife. Here, the road TF-454 ends in a terrific viewpoint. The cliffs and its multiple secluded beaches can only be visited by hiking along the top, or by booking a boat excursion (at the harbour.) However, when we visited the place, the cliffs were disappearing in clouds of mist, especially affecting the far end of the cliffs in the distance – which was a bit of a disappointment for us.
That’s why this image is far from perfect. Yet, I like this image because of its notion of looking at “the end of the world”. Well, this is not really true as there are still the small islands of La Gomera, La Palma and La Frontera next to Tenerife. But once you’ve passed these islands, there’s nothing else but the giant Atlantic Ocean for several thousand kilometers.
By the way, when we were at the viewpoint, it was surprisingly quiet, which added to the feeling of lonliness.
In any event, I’d love to re-visit this part of the island in the future and also do the hike along the cliffs.
