The story behind the image
A while ago I shared the story of the restaurant and hotel Bruhnskoppel near Malente-Gremsmühlen in Germany. It was originally owned and operated by my great-great-grandfather, Johann Hinrich Grebien (1826-1903), and you can read all about it in this post.
I’m still looking for postcards from the period before 1908 and recently I found this one. It does not show the impressive hotel, but the view from Bruhnskoppel across the gently curved landscape with its crop fields and tiny woods. It must have been a stunning, peaceful and very relaxing experience in 1899 (when this card was sent), and it probably still is today.
I will find out as we’re going to spend the summer vacation in the area, and I will definitely take a side-trip to Malente and Bruhnskoppel to see it all by myself.
