The story behind the image
Showcooking is a recent trend in Europe. Back in 1995, we had the pleasure of experiencing real show cooking (or BBQing) on the streets of Alvor in Portugal, probably at the R. Dr. Frederico Ramos Mendes near the harbour.
We dined at that restaurant, and it was the best grilled fish I had ever in my life. Of course, we might be biased. The combination of a warm summer evening, the fact that we could see the fish being grilled on the street, and the knowledge that it had been from the daily catch was great. But hey, that’s what a good meal makes.
I shot this photo while we were waiting for our main course, and I like the ambition of the cook who applied all his skills, acquired over decades, to his work.
