The story behind the image
Sailing photography is exciting and can be quite difficult. Exciting, because you get the chance to spend a day on the water and capture awesome, action-packed maritime motives. Difficult, because your ground can be shaky and is constantly going to move and the light can be challenging.
And the light was challenging for this shot. This is an image from a slide I captured with my Canon AE-1 Program. (I also had just brought my tiny Sony DSC-P72, a mainstream P&S camera.) The sunlight was streaming in almost frontally, resulting in beautiful, harsh contrasts that were difficult to capture. I must admit the the AE-1 Program did not as well as the Sony DSC-P72.
I like it anyway, because it illustrates a perfect summer day on the water in my hometown.
