The story behind the image

Between Las Vegas and San Francisco I recommend considering a stop in Bishop, one of the biggest towns in the Eastern Sierra. It is nice and tidy and offers everything you might need, including a public recreational park. While you are in Bishop you might take a side-trip to the Mammoth Lakes where nature has some surprises for prepared for you (apart from a breathtaking environment.)

On your way to the lakes, you’ll pass the Hot Creek Geological Site about 40 miles north of Bishop. The creek invites for a bath in natural hot springs (at your own risk.) Who needs to travel to Iceland when you have natural hot springs (almost) right in front of your door?

An awesome sight, and quite unexpected for us.
