The story behind the image

30 years ago, the former Neubiberg Air Base had been closed and later – following long discussions in the community – turned into a public park. For photographers there are countless photo opportunities. Obviously, there is the landing strip that looks so huge when you are walking along the center line.

But the real gems are slightly hidden and can be discovered once you explore the area off the landing strip. There are bunkers, sheep, hidden paths, and these abandoned railroad tracks. Over three decades they’ve remained untouched and today they have been completely overgrown by bushes and trees. Admittedly, it can be a bit spooky but then again what should possibly happen here?
