The story behind the image
Lake Garda in Italy is just a four-hour drive from our home in Munich, Germany, (on good days) but thanks to its true Italian flair it is a complete change to daily life in Germany. This is not just true for the weather (which is usually warmer than in Germany) but also for the mood and culture.
Riva del Garda is situated at the northern end of the lake and close to the mountains. You can go on nearby hikes but also explore and enjoy the lake.
In June 2001 we stayed for a couple of nights in Riva, an old town with a long history. Close to the town center there is the Rocca fortress which dates back to the 12th century. It is surrounded by the Canale della Rocca, which is used as a harbour for small boats today. Nearby parks and beaches add to the attractiveness of the town.
Lago di Garda? A great place to be!
