The story behind the image
From Bellaria Igea Marina we decided to visit San Marino, a tiny country situated within Italy, not far frm Rimini. We drove to the parking lot at the valley station of the Funivia, the cable car that brings you conveniently directly to the historic Città di San Marino on top of the mountain. You’ll be able to enjoy spectacular views in all directions as well as rather quiet (for the lack of traffic) walks through the historic town center and along the walls of the fortress. Several shops offer reasonably priced jewellery, watches, clothes, and souvenirs.
This photo shows the Guaita Tower, also known as ‘The First Tower’ (of three), photographed from the view point near the second tower. Right below the tower you can spot the Passo delle Streghe, a series of narrow, steep stairs. The area on the right is the Borgo Maggiore neighborhood which also belong to San Marino. It the distance you can see the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea which belongs to Italy.
If you’re visiting the area, we definitely suggest a side trip to San Marino.
