The story behind the image
Ascona is one of the must-see attractions when exploring the magnificient Lago Maggiore in the Alps. Located on the Swiss side of the lake, it combines Swiss precision with Italian lifestyle.
I like this image for two reasons: Firstly, it captures the beauty of the lake and the summer-like, relaxed feeling it can create. Secondly, it shows one of the truly Italian specialities: hydrofoils that cross the lake as fast passenger ferries. Here, it’s the Freccia dei Giardini that had achieved a high speed already, lifting the body of the ship out of the water. Impressive.
