The story behind the image

Back in 2003 we spontaneously booked a scenic flight in San Francisco, starting at the Seaplane Base at the main entrance of Pier 39. We simply could not resist.

There was only one company offering such flights: Seaplane Adventures. They operated a deHavilland Beaver directly from Pier 39 (by now they have moved their base to Sausalito).

Right after take-off the pilot took us across along the skyline of San Francisco and over the Bay Bridge. If my memory serves me right, this was one of the opening shots of the TV series “The Streets of San Francisco” (with Karl Malden and Michael Douglas). And it is as impressive today as it was back in 2003 and in the 1970s.

Nice.
