The story behind the image
For each couple I aim for providing long lasting photo memories that show one of the most important days in their lives. Of course, a big portion of this goal can be achieved by applying traditional, flawless wedding photography techniques and compositions. And my couples get these, make no mistake. But I aim for going the extra mile and provide them with shots that noone has – shots that I have envisioned just for them and nobody else. Shots that are not part of my portfolio. Genuinely unique stuff. This is one, and here is the story.
Now, Melanie and Markus have been a beautiful young couple, and I was happy that they selected me even considering their constrained budget. No problem for me as I squeeze the all-important shots into a shorter period.
Melanie and Markus were positively modern, and like many modern folks they fiddled around with their phones on their wedding day. Maybe a bit more than usual. And this ignited the idea to do an extra photo with an ususual and complex composition. I asked them to hold their smartphones close to each other and did a first shot as foundation of the image above. Then I did a second shot that shows them while they look at each other, in love, from the side. I used this shot to fill the screens of the smartphones with life: Melanie (the hand and phone on the left) has an image of Markus; Markus (the hand and phone on the right) has an image of Melanie.
It’s a bit of work in Photoshop to make it merge perfectly, but I love the result. And they did, too.
