The story behind the image
Lisbon in Portugal is overtowered by the São Jorge fortress, one of the true icons of the city. It sits right above the historic city center with its many restaurants and Fado singers. From the castle you have fantastic views across the city, but for this shot I selected a location opposite of the fortress.
The day had been beautiful, and the sun was about to set. It illuminated the city center with a warm glow. The long shadows were already dipping the western part of the city center, where I was standing, into darkness. I think it’s a beautiful photo even if the orange hue is almost a bit overwhelming (but that’s the nature of the sunlight at sunset.)
