The story behind the image
The channel leading up to Nymphenburg Castle in Munich, Germany, is spectacular at any time of the year and invites for long walks. During winter the channel usually freezes, creating a huge natural ice track. The people use it for skating, ice hockey, and curling. There are several little stands selling hot wine, hot dogs and (cold) beer.
This clear afternoon 19 years ago is the perfect example of the activity on the channel after several really cold nights. I like the shot because of the clear colors and its symmetry.
If you’re in Munich in winter, don’t miss visiting Nymphenburg Castle, and enjoy the relaxed mood on the channel.
