The story behind the image
Petra and I did a weekend trip to Helsinki to see some old friends and explore the city during winter. We stayed at the SAS Radisson Hesperia Hotel (now Crowne Plaza Helsinki). It is directly located at the Töölönlahti with nice views and convenient access to public transport towards the town center. The airport bus has a stop not far away, so it is easy to get from and to the airport. The lake was frozen (!) when we were there, and we could see people walking towards the city center using the shortcut across the lake.
The photo shows a nightly view from our room. The dark area to the left is the Töölönlahti. The street below is Mannerheimintie, which leads directly to Helsinki downtown. Sadly, I used just the new Kodak CD 4800 digital camera, so the ‘high resolution’ is not high at all by todays standards. But I like the photo anyway, and recently I made a 9 x 16″ print from it which turned out OK. Lovely.
