The story behind the image
One wealthy client asked me to shoot the brand new BMW Z4 he had purchased for his wife as a gift. He said he wanted a photo to remember the car. He specifically did not want his wife or himself to be present in the picture. “Just the car,” he told me, “just the car.” I did not ask a lot of questions, but accepted this request as the quirky characteristic of a very special personality.
And so, on a sunny day in October, the car dealer and I took the new car prior to delivery to two attractive locations in Munich: first to the Nymphenburg Channel, then to the Leopoldstraße in the city center (which is basically the High Street of Munich.)
At the Nymphenburg Channel, I told the driver where to park the car. I positioned the camera on the tripod almost on the ground to be on level with the main body of the car to get a full side shot. The natural light beautifully illuminated the colored leafs of the trees and highlighted the streamlined design of the car.
The result: One of several attractive photos, and a happy client who fell in love with the images. Nice.
