The story behind the image
During our 1988 trip to Portugal we also stayed a couple of nights in Olhao. One morning we took the ferry to hop over to Ilha do Farol, a large island south of Olhao with beautiful, long, unspoilt beaches. While walking up to the ferry terminal (visible in the back) we admired the fishermen while they were working on their boats and talking to each other.
Looking at the satellite photo today, I’d say the harbor has changed a lot over the past 35 years, and I believe that scenes like the one in the photo are rather rare today.
